Tragic, however, is that Daisy Corey’s artistic talents as well as other aspects of her life were smothered by her near total deafness, which led to seemingly odd behavior, which some, including her son, interpreted as insanity. Daisy’s artistic talents were expressed when she was a young woman through the decoration of china as well as fine art painting including this work of delicate coloration and balanced design. The artist, whose name with marriage became Daisy Corey Eiseley, was the mother of Loren Eiseley (1907-1977), distinguished anthropologist, writer, educator, and member of the Nebraska Hall of Fame. Corey is the signature on a small floral painting titled Pink and Yellow Roses, which is part of the Loren Eiseley Collection at the Heritage Room of the Bennett Martin Public Library in Lincoln, Nebraska.
